Celebrating National Health Center Week by Promoting Access for Underserved Ohioans

In celebration of National Health Center Week, CaringWire is proud to announce a partnership with the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC). CaringWire has integrated the association's 57 Community Health Centers (CHCs) and their 400+ clinical locations, including multiple mobile units in 72 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

CaringWire is a digital platform that connects individuals with the community resources they need most. By answering a few questions to identify needs, or by searching for services directly, individuals are instantly referred to top service providers nearby. Together with OACHC, CaringWire now offers underserved Ohians access to primary care and preventative care services at over 400 locations.

Ohio's CHCs are required to provide primary and preventive care to all patients regardless of a person's insurance status or ability to pay. These services can include medical, dental, vision, transportation, translation, pediatrics, behavioral health, substance abuse, health education, and enrollment services. The following represents a breakdown of the patients that Ohio’s CHCs serve:

  • 14.9% are uninsured
  • 51.2% are on Medicaid
  • 11.7% are on Medicare
  • 22% have private insurance
  • 32% are 0-21 years old; 33% are 21-44 years old
  • 2.3% are Migrant/Seasonal Agricultural Workers; 14.9% are Homeless; 15.4% are School Based Health Center Patients; 7.4% are Veterans; 60% are Public Housing Patients

In many areas of Ohio, OACHC member CHCs are the only source of health care for Medicaid patients and the uninsured. CHCs are safety net providers of cost-effective, high-quality primary and preventive health care in Ohio. Beyond the outstanding health services provided to patients, Ohio’s CHCs employ 603 physicians, 404 NP/PA/CNM providers, 145 dentists, 706 nurses and over 2,300 total staff positions in areas where quality professionals are in short supply. The overall economic impact of the CHC system is estimated to be over $230 million in the state of Ohio.
